Chaparral is a great cure all for any infection. Has antiviral, antibacterial properties. However, as the the old axiom goes, "the worst it tastes, the better it is for you" holds well here. Probably the most bitter tasting of any herb. One cup though will cure the most vicious cold. It does have a warning about being hard on the liver if used frequently so use it sparingly. Which is easy cause keeping one cup full down is an all day affair lol.

I use all of the previous suggestions with good results. I also use eucalyptus oil to relieve congestion. One mix is to add two or three drops of peppermint and eucalyptus oils to ten or fifteen drops of almond oil and apply this to the nostrils. When I get too much it tastes nasty, but it stops the sniffles and it has not hurt me.

Steev~ If you are already stuffy, try getting some peppermint oil dilute it with a good carrier oil, I use jojoba, it's three parts oil, and one part peppermint. I usually rub it on my temples and just a touch undermy nose. Before using the perppermint oil you should always test it on the inside of your arm in the sensative part at the bend. It is a very powerful oil and you may need to dilute it more. You can also rub it on your feet at night and cover them, it will help with congestion and coughing. This is safe for the children too. Lavender oil is also good for relaxation. It can be used full strength on the feet and a few drops in the tub for the children, and it will help them sleep. I always rubbed it on my grandsons feet when he would stay the night and he would go right off to sleep. Hope this helps. If you need anything else I have another mixture you do with sae salt that is very good for colds. I have allergies and chronic sinus infections so I have a couple things I use to get me through it!!!

re: Steev  Washing hands alot is always necessary when there are colds and flu going around. Hand sanitizer is handy when you cant wash and I keep clorox wipes in my purse for a variety of things encluding the hand railing of shopping buggys and door knobs. My family takes large dose vit c and when someone is sick or around sick people we take extra doses. At the first inkling of sickness we add echinacea to the mix and continue taking until you feel better. When my kids were still in public school they took vit c everyday and it worked wonders!
